Whether you have particularly small feet or particularly large feet, this post has you covered when it comes to Approach Shoes. In the data below, we tracked 28 approach shoe brands (you can see every brand in this post – which has a few more brands than our data here because some brands don’t easily list the sizes available on their websites!?!?!).
Now how did we determine small feet vs big feet? We graphed 189 models of approach shoes (you can compare them all on WeighMyRack) and each of their sizes for 3,248 total data points. The average approach shoe brand has about 16 sizes per model of shoe. There are a few outliers and these are the brands that bring us the shoes we’ll feature in this post.
Here’s how the whole spread looks in terms of size options:
Note: We’re using European (EU) sizing because it encompasses the whole range of sizes without having to translate between US men and US women sizing.
When we dive into the details of the small side we see:
Note: Some brands only do whole sizes or only do whole sizes for the ends of the ranges and this is why 36.5 feels like an outlier compared to 36 and 37.
Let’s extrapolate this graph into more usable information…
The Smallest Approach Shoes
Will fit size EU 34 / US W 3.5 / US M 2.5 / UK 1.5 and EU 34.5 / US W 4 / US M 3 / UK 2
There are only 2 brands and 2 models of shoe in this size range. If you click either model below, you’ll go to WeighMyRack and can see more details and also buying options (and info if the models are on sale right now or not).
Whereas many brands make many approach shoes in completely different size ranges, the Scorpio, by Saltic, is actually Saltic’s only approach shoe.
Approach Shoes size EU 35 / US W 4.5 / US M 3.5 / UK 2.5
In addition to the 2 models above there are 9 more models that fit this size range. Other than SCARPA (listed above) and La Sportiva’s (listed below), all the other small approach shoes available are thanks to Garmont.
Approach Shoes size EU 35.5 / US W 5 / US M 4 / UK 3
In addition to the 11 models listed above, there are 20+ more models by AKU, Arc’teryx, Butora, Black Diamond, Evolv, Gronell, and Montbell.
Now for Large feet.
Here’s the data up close.
Since there are 60+ models size 47.5 and 48, we’re not going to list them all here. The good news is about 25% of the available shoes will fit!
The Largest Approach Shoes
Fit size 49.5 / US M 15.5 / UK 14.5
49.5 was the largest size we documented that make approach shoes. Even though our graph shows there are 2 separate models, they are actually the same model of Terrex (Adidas/5.10) with the Terrex Swift Solo – coming in a “men’s” and “women’s” version (in quotes because they’re the same except color).
The Almost Largest Approach Shoes
Fit size 48.5 / US M 14.5 / UK 13.5 and EU 49 / US M 15 / UK 14
Turns out the models that go up to 48.5 also go up to 49. These are the 3 more models in addition to the ones above, all made by Andrew, a company that still makes their shoes in Montebelluna, Itlay.
Summary
It’s totally debatable if you even need approach shoes. That said, if you want approach shoes and feel like you’re an outlier with the size of your feet, these brands all offer models of shoes that have over 22 sizes and would be your best bet:
