I recently received a few pair of pants to review, and I’ll compare them alongside my goto pants that I’ve been wearing for the last few years. Three of the pants (Outdoor Research, 3rd Rock, DU/ER) I received for free in exchange for an honest review. The Patagonia jeans I purchased. These are my opinions, based on my experience, and are not intended to be an end-all statement. I’ve used a couple of the pants for over 6 months but less than 2 years, so long-term durability isn’t touched on directly; but I can speak to my initial impressions and some issues that have arisen within a few months.
If we plot each pair of pants on a graph with Performance on one axis and Style on the other, here’s where I would place them.
Outdoor Research Ferrosi
Summary: The best performing climbing pant of the group hands down, particularly for warmer weather or for long approaches. By far the most breathable, easy to roll up, and with zippered pockets, the Ferrosi pants are super versatile on the performance end of the spectrum. Wearable around town but definitely not designed to be stylish, unless your going for the “I just got off the trail” look. Read the full review.

3rd Rock Ramblas
Summary: These are a nice balance of climbing performance and looking acceptable around town, though still on the climber-style side of the fashion spectrum. Lightweight fabric is breathable and super stretchy for unencumbered movement. The details have been well thought out and executed. Read the full review.

DU/ER No Sweat Pant
Summary: Insanely stretchy for how thick the material is, but pretty heavy and not super breathable. The DU/ER pants are definitely the hippest, most on-trend pants of the group. These are a stylishly functional, cool temperature climbing pant that can be worn while climbing, but look even more at home at the whisky bar. Read the full review.

Patagonia Straight Fit Jeans
Summary: Not nearly as much stretch as the other pants reviewed, but better than most standard jeans. Classically stylish and ridiculously durable for how comfy they are. Theses have been my go-to pants for everyday wear going on 6 years, though they’ve almost worn through by this point and should perhaps be retiring soon.
Let me know in the comments if there are any pants you have found yourself living in and think I should try out.
